Jacqueline Palermo, Class of 2018, will have her scientific research published in the Journal of Emerging Investigators. Her project, entitled “Young People Drinking: The Effect of Group Size on Drinking Habits,” examines the drinking habits of high school aged students on Long Island, specifically, how they are influenced by the number of people in a group when being pressured to drink.

Jacqueline is a member of St. John the Baptist’s Scientific Research Program, GENESIS, which affords students with a passion for science the opportunity to pursue individual interests in multiple fields of science. She has been involved in the program since the 10th grade. According to the coordinator, “Publication in a peer reviewed journal is the ultimate goal of researchers in all fields of science. It is a fitting tribute to Jacqueline’s hard work and rigorous attention to detail.” Jacqueline has been accepted by early decision and will attend Wake Forest University next year.
