Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year in the Diocese of Rockville Centre!
This year will find new and exciting programs in many of our schools and a focus on learning in both the academic core subjects as well as in our faith.
One of our major goals is to continue to support the faith life begun at home and foster a deep desire to learn and grow in the teachings of the church. Through revised religion curricula, professional development opportunities for teachers, active participation in church and community programs, our young people will grow and thrive in an atmosphere of respect, compassion, service, and the message of the Gospel.
Academically, our schools will continue to provide focused instruction in all core subjects while embedding technology, problem solving and inquiry skills throughout all lessons. An increased number of schools are introducing Chromebooks as an instructional tool into everyday class work, STEM programs have gained strength and momentum, and students are gaining experience in a number of social projects, increasing their voice and their abilities to participate in a society that they will someday lead. Our Diocesan High Schools are looking closely at programs and projects that help to promote Catholic apostolic works so that our young people are well equipped to meet the challenges of the world that will both challenge them and support them as they become the doers and shakers of the future.
These are exciting times for our schools! We are fortunate to have talented administrators and teachers who go above and beyond in order to share the information needed for success. Our families are dedicated to the mission of Catholic education and sacrifice much so that both faith and knowledge are an integral part of their children’s lives. Our Bishop and priests and consecrated women are supportive and actively involved in the work of education. With a team like that, there can be nothing but success - success for our students, success for the future of our Church!
I welcome each of you to a new academic year where much will be learned and faith, knowledge, and wisdom celebrated.
Thank you in advance for your commitment to Catholic education. It is a choice that has never ending rewards. Just look into the face of our students!
