This week the Fourth grade students at Saint Anne’s dissected owl pellets in the Science Lab. Students learned all about owls, including their eating habits. After an owl eats their prey they are unable to digest certain parts like bones, feathers and fur which are coughed up into a pellet. Each pair of students observed these pellets noting details such as mass, length, width, color and scent. They used a bone sorting chart to figure out what their owl had eaten. The students learned so much about owls and realized how interesting it can be to discover so much by doing hands on learning.
