The middle school students of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Regional School in Bellmore have been utilizing Sphero Coding Robots.  Sphero is a robot ball that you can drive, code, draw with and more.  The middle school has been utilizing these robots in a variety of ways.  The sixth grade will be coding a maze that has been taped down in the hallway.  Students are challenged to get the right combination of speed, angles, and distance to get their Sphero to the end of the maze.  The seventh grade have created their own jousting horses (using solo cups and pencils).  They are challenged to drive with precision. They must collide and knock the cup off of their opponent to advance in the tournament.  The eighth grade is creating Battle Bots.  Students are challenged to engineer Battle Bots with household materials such as tissue boxes, cups, egg cartons, and more.  Their goal is to create a bot that does not tip over and successfully pops the balloon on the challenger’s bot.
