St. Isidore Students Complete Lessons to Complete Escape Room Challenge
Posted on 02/26/2018

The seventh grade students of St. Isidore School in Riverhead recently participated in an escape room challenge.  Their ELA teacher required them to get out of an "Escape Room" during the class period.  Students had to read a fractured fairy tale article (Jack and the Beanstalk) and then use terminology learned during previous instruction (e.g., hyperbole, simile, metaphor, etc.), as well as making comparative observations, writing a song, and completing math problems, in order to solve problems to collect "magic beans," which earned the clues that would lead them to the code to eventually find the escape room key.  The students worked in cooperative groups and were totally engrossed in the activity to get their "keys".  At the end, the exit ticket required the students to write about their "favorite part" and the "most challenging part" of the activity.
